One of our clients alerted us to an “invoice” they had received that claimed to be providing managed DNS Backup Business Services. It looks like an invoice and even includes a tear-off portion to remit with the payment but it is not a bill. We were able to advise them not to pay. However we wanted to take this opportunity to alert others to this insidious piece of subterfuge.
The mailer comes from DNS Services (DNSsvc.com) and lists a business address of Vancouver, Washington. While it does not appear to tip the scales as mail fraud it is definitely an attempt to fool those who do not read carefully. The document we were provided includes a disclaimer that states:
“This is a solicitation for the order of goods or services, or both, and not a bill, invoice, or statement of account due. You are under no obligation to make any payments on account of this offer unless you accept this offer.â€
Despite the disclaimer it is definitely designed to look like an invoice and a raft of complaints are beginning to appear on line.
So if you receive a document that looks like the one pictured here, do not respond to it or make a payment – it is simply a solicitation for a service you don’t need. So do the right thing and throw it in the trash.
